At George Smith Partners (GSP), Mr. Shaffer focuses on
delivering solutions to address his clients’ real estate
capital requirements and arranges structured
financing for multifamily and commercial properties,
including acquisition, refinance, construction, bridge
and permanent loans, mezzanine and participating debt,
and joint venture equity. He is one of the eight partners at
GSP, a 40-year-old boutique commercial real estate investment
bank that arranges $2.5 - $5 billion every year in debt and
equity for their clients.
For over 25 years, Mr. Shaffer has been active in the industry
with a track record of success and over $4.5 Billion of
transactions. He has completed transactions in the
multi-family, office, retail, industrial and hospitality
sectors as well as specialized experience with complex
data centers, healthcare/medical and senior facilities.
He is also considered an expert in complex restructuring,
bankruptcy debt and partnership buyouts.
Prior to GSP, Mr. Shaffer ran his own global investment
advisory company, managed assets and led dispositions
at large Japanese institutional investor, Mitsui Real Estate
Sales and operated projects for several development firms.
He was also the founder of the International Real Estate
Trade Organization (IRETO). Early in his career, he served
as a contractor for the United States Resolution Trust
Corporation (RTC), an Expert Witness, and as a California
Superior Court Receiver. Mr. Shaffer currently serves as a
member of the Clearinghouse Real Estate Company (CREC),
which is part of the Clearinghouse Community Development
Financial Institution.
